New Delhi (PB): The Department of Ayush is planning to promote the concept of AYUSH Gram (village) in a big way to expand the healthcare interventions with the help of Indian streams of medicines.
The programme, currently being implemented in Chattisgarh and Gujarat, will be expanded to more States with the support from the Department of Ayush which is planning to include it under the central scheme ‘Ayush and Public Health,’ sources said.
Ayush Gram is a concept wherein one village per block will be selected for Ayush interventions of health care by setting up facilities including hospitals. The overall health check up of the entire population will be done by Ayush doctors based on Ayush systems and they will be provided basic knowledge for promotion of health and prevention of diseases. The communities will be educated about healthy practices and advantages of traditional food items used locally and their medicinal properties.
The Ayush doctors will also undertake health checkup camps at schools in and around the selected villages. Ayush training will also be imparted to ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, school teachers etc. Awareness building activities would be conducted through gram panchayats involving schools, anganwadis, self-help groups and other community organizations. The villages near to PHCs having road connectivity will be selected for this programme.
“Treatment for sick people will be provided through the PHCs. This kind of program is already being implemented in Chhattisgarh and Gujarat and has been found successful in Ayush and community health promotion. Based on best Ayush practices being adopted in different states, it is intended to propagate the concept of Ayush Gram nationwide and support the proposals through the central scheme of “Ayush and Public Health,” sources said.
Apart from Chattisgarh and Gujarat, States like Uttarakhand and Karnataka governments also have moved towards promoting the concept in the recent times. Uttarakhand is planning one each Ayush gram in all the 13 districts and the first one was identified as Bhowali in Nainital district and Kolkota-based Emami Group is associating with the project.
