THIRUVANANTHAPURAM j(TOI): The UDF meeting held on Wednesday decided to request the government to enhance the retirement age of allopathic doctors in the government health service to 60 years from the present 55. However, a decision on homoeo and ayurveda doctors was not taken at the meeting.
UDF convener P P Thankachan, who addressed the media after the meeting, said a decision on the retirement age of these doctors would be taken at the next meeting of the front.
The meeting also discussed whether it was necessary to abolish the unified retirement date for state government employees introduced by the previous LDF government. It had fixed March 31 as the retirement date of those in government services. This was diminishing the chances of the unemployed in the state to get jobs, it was felt at the meeting. It was also playing havoc with the PSC rank lists, it was felt.
The UDF convener said a detailed discussion on this would be held at the next meeting.
The meeting also took up the issue of taking over the management of the Pariyaram Medical College. But no final decision has been taken on this. The liquor policy of the government was also discussed at the meeting.
