NEW DELHI: The Department of AYUSH has demanded to set up a Central Drug Controller for Ayush drugs separately with exclusive power. This demand has been raised in view of increasing presence of Ayurveda in the world scenario. Therefore, the Department wants to ensure the availability of quality drugs in the market.
A proposal regarding the creation of Controller has already been sent to the Planning Commission for consideration and inclusion of the post in the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) with an estimated fund allocation of Rs 166 crore. Earlier, the Expenditure Finance Committee had agreed to set up required infrastructure of Central Drug Controller for Ayush drugs.
Under the proposed Central Drug Controller for Ayush Drugs, there will be 40 posts comprising 25 regular and 15 contractual posts. Apart from that, 30 state-run Drug Testing Laboratories are proposed to be paid addition salaries during 12th Five Year Plan as per the central scheme for Drugs Quality Control.
